HEXR does not track you. There is no advertising identifier, no analytics SDK, no attribution network, and nothing is shared with a data broker. Nothing you do here follows you to another app or website.
Location
Only while the app is open. Never in the background. The app asks for "while using" location and nothing else — it has no permission to read your location when it is closed, and does not request one.
Your location is used to show the hexes around you and to verify you are physically present when you claim one. When other people see a hex you hold, they see the hex — an area — not a point where you stood.
What is collected
| Data | Collected | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location | Yes | To show nearby hexes and verify presence when you claim. |
| Coarse location | Yes | The same reading, widened to an area so others see a region rather than a point. |
| Email address | Yes | Signing in. Never shown to other users. |
| Name and username | Yes | Your username is public — it is how people find each other. |
| Photos | Yes | Only a photo you choose to put on a hex. |
| Your content | Yes | The tiles you create, poll votes and reviews. |
| Purchase history | Yes | To know what you bought. Apple handles payment; we never see a card number. |
| Device identifier | Yes | Apple's App Attest key, which proves the app is genuine. It cannot identify you across other apps. |
| Push token | Yes | To send the notifications you turn on. |
| Crash diagnostics | Yes, not linked to you | When something breaks, what broke and where. Emails, ids and coordinates are stripped out before it is stored, and it is never tied to your account. |
| Contacts | No | Never requested. You add friends by username. |
| Advertising data | No | There is no advertising in the app. |
| Health, financial, browsing or search history | No | None of it is collected. |
Everything marked collected is linked to your account, because the app is about what you hold and what you made — with one exception, crash diagnostics, which are not. None of it is used for tracking.
Motion
The app asks for motion access because the location software it uses reads motion activity to tell whether you are moving, which keeps your position accurate. That happens on your device. Motion data is never sent to us and never stored.
Your data is yours
- Export everything we hold, as one file: Settings → Your data → Export.
- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Your data → Delete account. Your hexes are released, your tiles removed and your profile anonymised.
Who else is involved
The services that make the app work: Supabase (our database and sign-in), Mapbox (map tiles), Apple (sign-in security, purchases, notifications) and Google's ARCore (visual positioning in AR). They are suppliers, not audiences — none of them is sent your data to use for their own purposes.
